A sensitivity analysis was performed with the difference on vehicle costs between Hydrogen FCV and Direct Methanol FCV. The result shows that a small $350.00 difference in favor of the DMFCV will be enough to balance the monetary private cost result (Figure-8). The uncertainties around these numbers are still high due to the early stage of technology development. HFCV requires less catalyst in the stack, and also a complex storage device, but DMFCV requires a simpler storage tank and more catalyst in the stack. The trade off between these two variables needs to be better studied.
